Representative Yusuf Gagdi (APC-Plateau) has condemned the attack on some communities of Kanam Local Government Area of the state by bandits.

Mr Gagdi, representing Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam federal constituency of the state made the condemnation in a statement on Sunday in Jos.

The bandits invaded Kukawa, Kyaram, Gyambau and Dungur, among other communities of the locality, killed some persons, destroyed properties and forced many others to flee their homes for safety.

The lawmaker, who is currently in Medina for lesser Hajj, said he received the news of the attack with ”sadness”.

Mr Gagdi who commiserated with families who lost their loved ones, commended the military for swiftly responding to the incident and restoring normalcy to the area.

”I wish to condemn without equivocation, the terrorist attacks on several communities in Kanam Local Government Area, leaving in the gory tales of human annihilation and destruction of valuables.

”I wish to commiserate with the families of those who lost their loved ones and prayed God Almighty to forgive the shortcomings of the victims and grant them everlasting rest.

”I thank the Armed Forces Committee of the House of Representatives, who swiftly contacted the Minister of Defence, to request for immediate military presence in the affected communities and those bordering them in order to arrest the surging activities of bandits in communities within my constituency,” he said.

The lawmaker, however, called on government and security agencies to always act on intelligence reports that suggest possible security breaches, adding that such would enable citizens to have confidence in them.

Mr Gagdi, who promised to abandon his lesser Hajj and return so as to personally meet with the affected families, thanked Governor Simon Lalong of the state for the role played in arresting the situation.

He called on residents of the boundary communities, particularly those in Wase and Kanam Local Government Area to be on the alert, as fleeing bandits from Zamfara and other North-West states are traced to be camping within the thick bushes in the areas.

He advised them to report any suspicious movements in and around their vicinity to the security agencies for prompt response.
