Rep. Philip Agbese, the deputy chairman, house committee on media and public affairs, has urged the federal government to take drastic measures to address the erosion menace in Imo.

He said this in Abuja on Wednesday when he reacted to appeals for help from the people of Ideato North/ South Federal Constituency in Imo.

Mr Agbese said the people of Ideato had been neglected by successive administrations in the country as the menace of erosion continued to eat deep into the community.

He said that Ideato had been plagued by a mirage of problems ranging from insecurity and alleged marginalisation to under-development.

He described Rep. Ikenga Ugochinyere (PDP-Imo), who represents the constituency as a patriot whose cry was born out of chauvinism, frustration and love for his people.

The lawmaker said that the news coming out from Ideato was worrisome and called for urgent action by governments at all levels.

“My attention has been drawn to the plight of the good people of Ideato North/ South Federal Constituency by my friend and brother, Ugochinyere.

“Even before his foray to the National Assembly, Ugochinyere has always been a voice for his people and indeed Nigerians, his continuous cries is born out of patriotism and passion, ” he said.

Mr Agbese said that the situation in Ideato was pathetic and worrisome, to say the least.

“Insecurity is the order of the day, just as there is no sign of government presence there.

“I want to use this medium to call on the federal government to pay attention to the cry of these people.

“As a listening father, I know President Bola Tinubu will act but we want it done swiftly,” he said.

Mr Agbese who represents Ado /Okpokwu/ Ogbadibo Federal Constituency in Benue said every part of Nigeria and all citizens deserved equal privileges irrespective of religion and tribe.

He pledged support for Mr Ugochinyere, who doubled as the chairman, house committee on petroleum downstream for courage.
