Rotimi Amaechi condemned for criticising Tinubu’s colossal coastal road project

Former House of Representatives member Oghene Egoh has criticised former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi over his comments on President Bola Tinubu’s Lagos–Calabar coastal road project.
Mr Amaechi, a former presidential aspirant, had reportedly described the coastal road as a fraudulent project. He said he would terminate it if elected president.
However, Mr Egoh, a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party, who represented Amuwo-Odofin federal constituency, stated in Lagos on Monday that Mr. Amaechi’s comment was in bad taste.
Mr Egor, who defected to the All Progressives Congress party in 2024, stated that Mr. Amaechi had no moral grounds to condemn the project, noting that the former minister had failed to deliver similar initiatives while in office.
“Amaechi did not do enough for the South-South when he was minister of transportation. Instead, he focused on building a railway to the Niger Republic, neglecting critical infrastructure in the Niger Delta,” Mr Egoh said.
He described the Lagos–Calabar coastal road as a transformational project that would boost trade, strengthen inter-state relations, and drive economic growth across the South-South and Lagos.
According to him, the initiative will create jobs, improve transport links, and foster national integration.
Mr Egoh also commended the president’s “bold and decisive” policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies, saying they would yield long-term benefits despite current economic challenges.
“Hunger in the land is a temporary challenge. Already, we are seeing a drop in the prices of rice and tomatoes. With time, other food commodities will follow suit,” he said.
He noted that the administration was empowering farmers to guarantee food security and reduce dependence on imports.
Mr Egoh urged Nigerians to be patient and support the government’s reforms, stressing that “what previous administrations could not achieve, President Tinubu is achieving.”
