Scorching heat kills 11 people, 50 hospitalised in Mumbai

Eleven people died from scorching heat after attending a government event, where a large crowd gathered outdoors in Mumbai, India.

Eleven people died from scorching heat after attending a government event, where a large crowd gathered outdoors in Mumbai, India. 

Eight out of those dead were women, mostly elderly while 50 people were hospitalised after suffering from dehydration and heat stroke. 

The crowd gathered under the scorching sun for five hours, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. while government officials were covered under the tents. 

The government promised to pay compensations to relatives of the dead victims and pay for the medical treatment of the victims in the hospital.
