After a week of rigorous scrutiny for some and brief introductions for others, the Senate eventually finished vetting 45 of President Bola Tinubu’s 48 nominations for ministerial positions on Monday.

They were then confirmed as cabinet members.

Three candidates, Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State; Stella Okotete from Delta State, and Abubakar Danladi, the former governor of Taraba State, were subjected to a series of voice votes by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The announcement of the confirmation comes more than a week after Tinubu sent a 28-member list to the red chamber for approval on July 27.

Ex-governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna and Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, as well as Wale Edun, Uche Nnaji, Stella Okotete, Adebayo Adelabu, Ekperikpe Ekpo, Hannatu Musawa, and Musa Dangiwa, were all screened by the Senate on Tuesday.

The red chamber screened Doris Uzoka, Ali Pate, Lateef Fagbemi, and Muhammad Idris the next day. Dele Alake was also tested.

The Senate received a second list of 19 nominees from Tinubu last Wednesday. Two days later, the President removed Maryam Shetty of Kano State from the list and substituted with Festus Keyamo and Mariya Mahmoud.
