On Thursday, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) said it would invest up to $50 million over 10 years to help Senegal’s Institut Pasteur manufacture vaccines for the Global South.

CEPI, a global initiative headquartered in Norway, is creating a network of vaccine manufacturers in developing countries to help to boost capacity and reserves for future outbreaks and pandemics.

CEPI is a foundation that takes donations from public, private, philanthropic and civil society organisations to finance independent research projects to develop vaccines against emerging infectious diseases.

Amadou Alpha Sall, the chief executive officer of Institut Pasteur de Dakar, a non-profit foundation in Senegal’s capital, said, “The facility will ensure regional outbreaks are not neglected by deploying the latest technology for the greatest need.”
