Shannen Doherty, the beloved actress best known for her role as Brenda Walsh on the iconic television series ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’, died on Saturday at her home in Malibu, California.

Her publicist, Leslie Sloane, confirmed that the cause of death was cancer in an emailed statement.

Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, Doherty openly shared her journey, highlighting both the physical and emotional challenges she faced.

Despite periods of remission, the disease ultimately spread.

Born on April 12, 1971, in Memphis, Tennessee, Doherty began acting at a young age. Her breakout role came in 1982 with the popular family drama ‘Little House on the Prairie’, where she played Jenny Wilder.

However, her portrayal of Brenda Walsh in ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ catapulted her to stardom.

The show, which premiered in 1990, quickly became a cultural phenomenon, and Doherty’s character was a central figure in the teen drama.

Following her departure from ‘90210’ in 1994, Doherty continued to make a mark in the entertainment industry.

She starred as Prue Halliwell in the supernatural drama ‘Charmed’, which further solidified her status as a television icon. Her performance earned her a loyal fanbase and numerous accolades.

Doherty’s career was not without its controversies, as her reputation for being difficult on set often overshadowed her talent. Despite this, she remained resilient in Hollywood, continuously finding new projects and reinventing herself.

She appeared in several reality TV shows, including ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and ‘Shannen Says’, documenting her 2011 wedding to photographer Kurt Iswarienko.

In addition to her acting career, Doherty advocated for cancer awareness.

She used her platform to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and the realities of living with cancer.

Doherty’s marriages to actor Ashley Hamilton and poker player Rick Salomon ended in divorce. In May 2023, she filed for divorce from her third husband, Kurt Iswarienko, a Hollywood portrait photographer.

She was survived by her mother.
