Sokoto State governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has announced the commencement of formal sector deductions for the state’s Contributory Healthcare Programme.

Mr Aliyu made the announcement at the closing ceremony of the USAID Integrated Health Programme in Sokoto on Friday.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bello Sifawa, the governor stated that the system would provide access to quality healthcare services to all the public servants and their families.

“The state government has finalised the necessary arrangements, including obtaining the consent of the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress to begin deductions from civil servants’ salaries.

“Additionally, we are exploring options to ensure the payment of equity funds to cover state retirees and pensioners by the end of the year,” he said.

Mr Aliyu further acknowledged the collaborative efforts of stakeholders and development partners in the state’s health sector.

Earlier, Commissioner for Health, Asabe Balarabe, emphasised the invaluable contributions of development partners towards enhancing the healthcare system in the state.

Ms Balarabe assured full support and cooperation from the ministry and its parastatals to enable the development partners to perform their duties effectively.
