On Monday, Ahmad Aliyu, the Governor-elect of Sokoto, lauded the electorate for their support during Saturday’s gubernatorial election. In his maiden news briefing, the governor-elect disclosed a nine-point agenda to ensure a viable road map and maximum transformations in the state.

Aliyu won the governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress with 453,661 votes against his closest rival, Sa’idu Umar of the Peoples Democratic Party, who got 404,632 votes.

Mr Aliyu said that the agenda includes uplifting the standards of education, healthcare delivery and water supply. Others are agriculture, security, youth empowerment, local government autonomy, religious affairs and economy.

The governor-elect described his victory as a clarion call for doing his best to reform the state and restore its lost glory.

“My administration will listen to the yearnings and aspirations of the citizens with a view to meeting up the campaign promises. I will strengthen the civil service by making it more productive and ensure prompt payment of salaries, pensions and gratuity as at when due,” Mr Aliyu explained.

He added, “My administration will welcome constructive criticisms from Nigerians.”

The Sokoto governor-elect urged his opponents to consider the situation as destiny and join hands with him in developing Sokoto.

He expressed gratitude to Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto North), Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, Sokoto APC chairman Sadiq Achida, other party stakeholders and loyalists for their support which facilitated his victory.
