SpaceX reached significant milestones in a bid to achieve reusable rockets as the company’s Starship rocket, which is the most powerful launch vehicle ever built, was launched in a test flight on Thursday.

According to the BBC, SpaceX achieved the specific ambitions it set out before the Thursday launch, which was its fourth test flight to show the reusability of its Starship as SpaceX aims to achieve affordable space exploration.

SpaceX launched its latest Starship with a launch system consisting of the upper Starship spacecraft and a rocket booster with 33 engines known as the Super Heavy from the private Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas, on Thursday morning.

Only one of the rocket’s 33 engines failed to light up during the launch, exclusively broadcast live on X.

The BBC reported that the Starship accomplished many milestones, including the vehicle’s capsule surviving Earth’s peak atmospheric temperature upon reentry from space.

For the first time, the Super Heavy booster successfully executed a landing burn after separating from the spacecraft before softly landing in the Gulf of Mexico about eight minutes after launch.

“Despite loss of many tiles and a damaged flap, Starship made it all the way to a soft landing in the ocean!” SpaceX CEO Elon Musk wrote on X.
