The trials, which took place at the indoor hall of Alake Sports Centre, Abeokuta, on Saturday, attracted retired coaches, sports administrators, patrons of the association, and lovers of the sport.

Speaking with Journalists, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, Amos Ojo, said the future was bright for wrestling in the state based on the wrestlers’ performance during the trials.

Ojo, a former wrestling head coach in the state, commended the efforts of the chairman and members of the association to develop the game.

He stressed the need for the government also to support the association with the necessary equipment for the athletes.

Also, the head coach, Adebayo Badmus, explained that the trials were necessary to pick the best wrestlers that would compete with other states at the National Sports Festival in Delta state.

Badmus promised to correct the mistakes noticed during the trials before the commencement of the biennial event.

The captain of the wrestling team, Solomon Agwaza, expressed worry over the poor state of facilities available for training, which he said had caused injuries to the athletes.
