The embattled chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Wale Adedayo, who recently accused the Ogun state governor Dapo Abiodun of suppressing the local government has accused the governor of allegedly using operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) in an attempt to impeach him.

He also alleged that the Ogun State chairman of RTEAN, Akibu Efele, “has been instructed to deal with me along with some Black Axe members based in ljebu Ode.”

In a post via his Facebook page, Mr Adedayo said the use of mobile policemen in order to impeach him was an act of desperation.

“Invading the peaceful Ogbere community with mobile policemen in order to impeach Wale Adedayo is desperation.

“As I told the SSG yesterday, we took an oath with our fathers that we’ll make this land better than we met it. You can kill the body, but not the spirit of Wale Adedayo,” he said.

Mr Adedayo had in a letter addressed to a former governor of the state and a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olusegun Osoba accused the governor of underfunding the local government system since he took office in May 2019.

In the letter dated August 28, Mr Adedayo accused Governor Abiodun’s administration of withholding revenue which the local governments should benefit. He stated that the State Government had primarily taken over all sources of income in the state.

However, in an attempt to prevent public criticism, Mr Abiodun immediately summoned the 20 council chairmen to the state government house in Abeokuta, the state capital, according to sources familiar with the matter.

In an eight-second viral video, some of the state council chairmen were seen prostrating to the governor in a manner to beg over Mr Adedayo’s letter.

The 20 council chairmen were led by the chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, state chapter Emilola-Gazal.

Mr Adedayo was absent from the state house meeting with the governor, a source told this medium.

Since the details of the letter leaked on the internet, there have been wide reactions from different quarters as many have called for the investigation into Mr Adedayo’s claims.

This development comes amid heightened back-and-forth crises between the executive branch and local governments, the latter of which has complained of being impoverished as a result of inadequate funding.

Mr Adedayo also alleged that the SSS called him a few minutes back saying “I should see the State Director in Abeokuta by 10 tomorrow.”

He said he has been summoned to Abeokuta for a meeting with the SSG and possibly the Governor too. “On my way there now,” he wrote.

“The Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA) in my local government has also been summoned along with the Clerk of our Legislative House.”
