Subsidy: Oyo CP assures of police commitment to ensuring peaceful protests
Following Wednesday’s nationwide protest by organised labour, the police command in Oyo State says it will continue to ensure peaceful demonstrations while maintaining law and order.
The command’s public relations officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, said this in a statement on Wednesday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police (CP), Adebola Hamzat.
The protest was peaceful, though the state workers insisted on sustaining the action until Governor Seyi Makinde addressed them personally.
Mr Hamzat said the command, under his leadership, had implemented adequate security measures to ensure a peaceful procession in the state.
According to him, strategic operational and intelligence assets, evident through visibility policing and confidence-building patrols, have been deployed across the 10 area commands in the state.
The police commissioner said the spotlight was particularly focused on places of interest, critical infrastructure, and landmarks.
During the protest, some locations were manned by security personnel, comprising the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
