Nigeria’s Super Eagles have advanced to the semi-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire following a narrow 1-0 win over Angola in a quarter-final clash at the Félix Houphouët Boigny Stadium on Friday evening.

Ademola Lookman, the hero of Nigeria’s round of 16 victory over Cameroon, a match in which he scored the two goals that propelled Nigeria forward, was also the standout player in Friday’s match against Angola.

In the 41st minute, the Atalanta forward calmly directed a pass from Moses Simon into the back of the net to score the only goal of the game, once again sending Nigeria to the next stage of the competition.

Late in the game, Victor Osimhen thought he had secured his second goal of the tournament after heading home a cross from Ademola Lookman, but it was disallowed for offside by VAR.

Angola’s best chance to level the game came in the 59th minute following a through pass into the Nigerian box by Manuel Cafumana, but Zini, who went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, struck the post with his shot.

Meanwhile, Nigeria will now await the winner of the quarter-final match between Cape Verde and South Africa on Saturday for a place in the final.
