The Supreme Court upholds Sanwo-Olu as duly elected governor of Lagos.

Judgment was delivered by Justice Mohammed Garba.

Prior to the apex court’s ruling today, the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal had dismissed an appeal by the PDP and its governorship candidate, Abdulazeez Adediran, against the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat. The appellate court also dismissed Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party’s appeal.

The court upheld the September 25 decision of the Lagos governorship election petition tribunal affirming the victory of Messrs Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat in the March 18 governorship poll.

It held that the appellants failed to prove their allegations of forgery and non-qualification against Mr Sanwo-Olu and his deputy.

“Though they were all pre-election matters, the appellants, the PDP and its candidate, Mr Adeniran, still failed to prove them. The appellants came empty-handed and left empty-handed. Their petition lacked merit and is dismissed,” the appellate court held.
