A 24-year-old man, Michael Akintunde, on Wednesday appeared in the Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over an alleged attempt to unlock and steal from a shop.

The prosecutor, Inspector Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that Mr Akintunde, who resides at No 27 Odutola Street, Surulere, Lagos, committed the offence on July 10.

Mr Ekhueorohan said the defendant was caught attempting to open a store room at No 32, Bode Thomas Street, Surulere.

“In the course of the investigation, he could not give any valid reason for being at the store when the police arrested him,” he said.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 405 (2) (a) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

Mr Akintunde, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The magistrate, M.I. Dan-Oni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with two responsible sureties.

Mrs Dan-Oni adjourned the case until August 12 for a trial.
