Theodore “Ted” Kaczynski, also known as Unabomber, has died aged 81 at a federal prison in the United States. He is infamously known for orchestrating a series of bomb attacks through mail targeted at many scientists that killed and injured many for almost a decade.

According to a spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons, Mr Kaczynski died around 8 a.m. Saturday morning at a federal prison in North Carolina where he was serving life imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the cause of death of the former mathematics professor whose evil deeds earned him a ‘local terrorist’ tag was not disclosed.

In 1996, Mr Kaczynski was arrested and sentenced to life without the possibility of parole following a series of bombing attacks he carried out on various parts on American soil. He was initially kept at federal supermax prison in Colorado for more than two decades before he was moved to a federal prison medical facility in North Carolina.

Between 1978 and 1995, Mr Kaczynski carried out 16 explosions which he pleaded guilty to and mostly targeted at scientists. In the course of his criminal activities that spanned 17 years, three people were killed in the explosions and 23 others injured.

Mr Kaczynski was arrested in western Montana, Canada, where he was living in a primitive cabin. He carried out most of his attacks nationwide using mail bombing (letter bombs) in a campaign against people he believed were advancing modern technology and destroying the environment.
