Tems wins Grammy, Burna Boy leaves empty-handed

Tems has won her first Grammy at the 65th Grammy awards on Sunday.

Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi (Tems) has won her first Grammy at the 65th Grammy awards on Sunday.

The 27-year-old afrobeats sensation scooped her the award for her musical contribution to Future’s ‘Wait For You’, which featuring American singer Drake.

The ‘Crazy things’ crooner won the award for the Best Melodic Rap Performance category after beating the likes of Latto, Kendrick Lamar and Dj Khaled to clinch the prestigious award.

This year’s edition of the Grammy held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles saw fellow compatriot, Burna Boy, losing in two categories for the Best Global Music Album and The Best Global Music Performance.

He was edged out by Japan’s Masa Takumi.

He also failed to win the Best Global Music Performance as South Africa’s Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini & Nomcebo Zikode claimed the Grammy.
