Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from the French Open after failing to become fit for the tournament following knee surgery, media reports on Tuesday indicated.

Mr Kyrgios missed the Australian Open earlier this year due to a knee injury.

He last played an official tournament in October and underwent surgery in January.

The Australian, however, remains keen to play at Wimbledon, where he reached his maiden grand slam final last year.

The French Open is to run from Monday to June 11.

It is still unclear whether title-holder Rafael Nadal will compete following a hip injury he suffered at the Australian Open.
