Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps on Wednesday arrested some miscreants extorting N100 from pedestrians plying a makeshift bridge at Trade Fair, along Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

A video shared by an X user with the handle, @arise0214 at 9:52am, showed sacks of sand were laid at the now flooded middle of the express separating the two roads, to allow easy passage by pedestrians crossing to the other side of the road.

The miscreants in the 54 seconds video could be seen blocking the passageway to demand N100 from each pedestrian before crossing to the other side of the road or returning from the opposite end.

The person who made the video was heard saying, “They’re collecting N100 from each person to take this passage. This is the Trade Fair Under bridge. Pay N100 before you can take the passage. And we have a President in this country. Tinubu, look at their faces.”

The X user captioned the video, “This is what the construction company has caused along Lagos Badagry Expressway. While the construction is going on, they should provide a temporary access route for the citizens where there are no pedestrian bridges to avoid all this.”

However, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a post attached with two videos, (https://x.com/tokunbo_wahab/status/1808475854441193731?t=7UBYeFh_6W1S6Tr5Eyjweg&s=19)

shared on his official X handle at exactly 1:20pm, confirmed the arrest of the miscreants.

Mr Wahab wrote, “Following a complaint made by @ARISE0214, miscreants charging people for using the makeshift crossover bridge at Tradefair this morning, have been arrested by the operatives of Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps @LAGESCOfficial.”

The commissioner said that the suspects would be prosecuted according to the law.
