Tottenham Hotspur complete €60 million signing of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the €60 million signing of Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, securing one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.
The 22-year-old Dutch international joined Thomas Frank’s side, signing a contract that runs until June 2030, with an option to extend until 2032.
Simons completed his medical in the early hours of Friday and will wear the No. 7 jersey at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, taking over the shirt following club legend Heung-min Son’s departure.
Xavi Simons arrives at Tottenham with a strong attacking pedigree, having recorded 22 goals and 24 assists in 78 appearances for RB Leipzig across all competitions
Manager Thomas Frank, reacting to his arrival, said, “I’m really pleased we have brought Xavi in. He is a great addition to the squad.
“He is still young; however, he already has good experience and, over the past few years, has played a lot of games at the top level.
“Xavi has proven his ability to get goals and assists, both from the number 10 position and left-wing. He also has a great eye for his team-mates in terms of unlocking defences, and I know he will come in and be part of a good team that is already working hard together.”
The player’s arrival follows injuries and missed targets in the attacking midfield department, including the ACL injury to James Maddison and failures to land Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze.
Xavi started at Spanish side Club Deportivo Thader before moving through the academies of Barcelona and PSG. He made his professional debut for PSG at 17 in a French Cup game against SM Caen and won both the French Cup and Ligue 1 in his first two seasons.
His real breakthrough came in 2022/23 with PSV Eindhoven. He scored on debut to win the Dutch Super Cup, finished the Eredivisie season as top scorer with 19 goals, won the Dutch Cup, and was named Talent of the Season.
PSG brought him back in 2023, but he was loaned to RB Leipzig, where he lifted the German Super Cup on debut and had 25 goal contributions across the season, earning a spot in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.
Internationally, he made his debut for the Netherlands at the 2022 World Cup.
He also helped his country reach the Euro 2024 semi-finals and has 28 caps with five goals.
