Premier League club Tottenham Hotspurs says they will reimburse the cost of match tickets of their fans who made the trip to the shambolic 6-1 league defeat to Newcastle United over the weekend.

Tottenham conceded five goals in the opening 21 minutes of the game at the St. James’ Park as they fell to one of their heaviest defeats in recent years which ultimately led to the sacking of the club’s interim manager Cristian Stellini.

As part of efforts to appease Tottenham fans who are obviously unhappy about the manner in which they lost to their top-four race rivals, the club has decided to reimburse the fans who bought match tickets to the game.

“As a squad, we understand your frustration, your anger. It wasn’t good enough. We know words aren’t enough in situations like this but believe us, a defeat like this hurts,” the club’s statement said.

It added: “We appreciate your support, home and away, and with this in mind we would like to reimburse fans with the cost of their match tickets from St James’ Park.”

Former player Ryan Mason has been announced as the first team manager on temporary basis with his first two games being huge games against Manchester United and Liverpool which they must salvage points to achieve their Champions League aim.

Meanwhile, the club vowed to go all out in their next league match against the Red Devils on Thursday as they hope to turn their recent bad fortunes around.

“We know this does not change what happened on Sunday and we will give everything to put things right against Manchester United on Thursday evening when, again, your support will mean everything to us.”
