TRACE orders Ogun traders to vacate roadside

The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) in Ogun has ordered traders selling goods at Sango Tollgate on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to vacate the area.
Salau Hammed, the Ota divisional commander of TRACE, gave the directive in an interview on Monday in Ota.
He said the directive was necessary to prevent accidents and loss of lives, especially of traders who sell goods on the road.
According to Mr Hammed, traders hawking on the highway were in more danger than those selling in approved markets.
He added that when big trucks have brake failure, roadside traders are usually the most affected.
The commander advised the traders to move to the designated markets provided by the government for their businesses.
He also advised drivers to maintain a safe speed when approaching the Tollgate area.
Mr Hammed said TRACE would continue to work with other agencies to remove traders from the highway and ensure safety.
He further cautioned commercial motorcyclists and bus drivers against arbitrary parking on the road to pick up passengers, as this could lead to accidents.
