Premier League side Manchester City have signed right-back Joško Gvardiol from German Bundesliga RB Leipzig on a five-year contract.

“Manchester City are delighted to confirm the signing of Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig on a five-year deal,” the reigning England and European champions said in a statement announcing the arrival of the Croatian.

City paid £77.6 million to secure the service of the 21-year-old to become the club’s second signing of the summer transfer window following the earlier arrival of his national team compatriot Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea.

“I have always dreamed of one day playing in England, and to be doing so now with Manchester City – after the season they have just had – is a real honour for me,” Gvardiol told mancity.com after the move.

He added: “Anyone who saw Manchester City play last season knows they are the best team in the world. To win, the Treble says everything you need to know about the quality this team has. To be joining City is something very special for me and my family.”

In other news, Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Spanish goalkeeper Roberto Sanchez from Brighton & Hove Albion, the club announced in a statement on Saturday.

“Chelsea Football Club has completed the transfer of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez from Brighton & Hove Albion,” the club statement read. “He made 87 Premier League appearances.”

Brighton will receive £20m upfront and £5m in add-ons to part ways with the player, who has now signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge and will soon join up with the first-team squad at Cobham.
