Transportation varsity unveils trans-Saharan trade research initiative
The Federal University of Transportation, Daura, has inaugurated a trans-Saharan route and trade research project team constituted by the vice-chancellor, Umar Adam-Katsayal.
The 10-member team will be led by a principal investigator, Yakubu Ocheifu-Aboki, the former secretary-general of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities.
Inaugurating the team in Daura on Tuesday, Mr Adam-Katsayal said the initiative aimed to establish research directions for the institution.
According to him, the team is expected to provide a comprehensive framework for organising and executing a research project on the historical dynamics of trans-Saharan trade and their relevance to contemporary African development.
He urged the team to expedite action to meet the research work deadline, adding that their selection was meticulously made with consideration of their vast knowledge and experience.
The vice-chancellor said that the team would join other expert researchers from Nigeria, West Africa, and Pan-African institutions to address four critical research questions through fieldwork, collaborative presentations, panel discussions, and working group sessions.
”It will also form the basis for the research to be carried out in respect of the transportation focus of the institution,” he said.
Mr Ocheifu-Aboki thanked the vice-chancellor and other management staff of the institution for the confidence reposed in them to carry out the assignment.
He assured the VC of the team’s commitment to discharging its duties effectively.
