Troops arrest 271 suspected bandits, kidnappers, armed robbers in Plateau, other states

The deputy commander of OPSH said troops also recovered 1,161 ammunition and rescued 79 kidnap victims within the period under review.

Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a special military task force maintaining peace in Plateau and parts of Bauchi and Kaduna States, have arrested 271 suspects for committing various offences within its areas of responsibility.

DCP Terzungwe Iyela, the deputy commander of OPSH, on Friday in Jos, said troops of the operation also recovered 1,161 ammunition and rescued 79 kidnap victims within the period under review.

The deputy commander explained that suspects were arrested over kidnapping, armed robbery, and banditry, among other crimes.

”Seventy-nine civilians were rescued from kidnappers and armed robbers, while a total of 100 different calibres of weapons and 1,161 ammunition were recovered from the suspected criminals.

”Troops also neutralised 13 armed criminals and arrested 271 suspects for offences related to kidnapping, armed robbery, gun running, banditry, farm destruction, vandalism and other sundry crimes,” he said.

Mr Iyela explained that it had charged 33 suspects to court, dismantled two arms fabrication factories and recovered 554 cattle from rustlers.

He expressed the commitment of OPSH troops toward ensuring the security of lives and property in the state.
