No fewer than 21 suspected bandits have been killed by security agencies in collaboration with vigilantes and locals in Danko Wasagu LGA in Kebbi. The council chairman, Hussani Bena, confirmed this on Thursday.

Danko Wasagu shares a border with Mariga LGA of Niger, where the bandits access Kebbi, according to Mr Bena.

The killing of the suspected bandits started on Monday through Tuesday up to Wednesday, adding that the bandits came through Mariga into Tudun Bichi under Wasagu, but credible intelligence kept the security agencies, vigilante group and locals on alert, which led to a successful ambush, Mr Bena revealed.

The council boss added that locals, in collaboration with vigilantes, killed 17 suspected bandits and recovered arms, ammunition and motorcycles.

Two locals were killed in the firefight.

Mr Bena explained that the alleged bandits also moved to Tangaran village and abducted nine farmers working on their farmlands.

The farmers were later rescued by combined efforts of security agencies, vigilantes and locals at a village called Lugga in Ayu district.

The LG chair said a careful watch on the movement of the bandits also resulted in another encounter at Bakin Gulbi, where the combined team killed four bandits, recovered weapons and rescued three kidnapped persons, assuring that the bandits’ movement was being monitored for further action.

He said the bandits killed Marafan Mai Inuwa under the Kanya district and kidnapped some people, later rescued by the army after killing some of the bandits.
