On Thursday, two men, Sunday Joseph, 19, and Pius Temse, 25, were arraigned before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for breaking into a shop and stealing.

The defendants face a two-count charge of shop breaking and stealing.

The prosecutor, Moyosola Adesola, told the court that the first defendant committed the offence on February 24 at about 5:30 a.m., behind Ekute Police Post in Ado-Ekiti.

She alleged that Mr Joseph broke into the shop of Adebisi Adewale on Sunday.

Ms Adesola said that the defendant stole the items belonging to the complainant. The items included a slice bread machine valued at N250,000, motor rim at N150,000, spanner at N5,000, bolt and nuts at N130,000, totalling N535,000.

She also alleged that Mr Temse committed an offence on February 23, at about 5:00 a.m., behind Ekute Police Post in Ado-Ekiti, when he stole two motor batteries valued at N96,000 belonging to Mohammed Nureni.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable her to study the case file and present her witnesses.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.

Counsel to the defendants, Olawumi Olowolafe, urged the court to grant them bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

The chief magistrate, Taiwo Ajibade, granted bail to the first defendant in N100,000 with one surety in like sum, and the second defendant N20,000 bail with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until March 20 for a hearing.
