Two men in court over alleged theft of motorcycle worth N1.2 million

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Two men, Hammed Abdulrasheed and Abiodun Aluko, on Wednesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle worth N1.2 million.

The defendants, Abdulrasheed, 22 and Aluko, 42, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of stealing and illegal possession of the stolen item.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Alice Ojo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on August 6, at 04:00 p.m., in Ado-Ekiti.

She said that the first defendant, Abdulrasheed, stole a Bajaj motorcycle valued at N1.2 million, which belonged to the complainant, one Ogundipe Babasanmi.

Ms Ojo added that the second defendant, Aluko, was in possession of the stolen motorcycle.

She said that the offences contravened Sections 302 and 343 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them by the police.

The prosecutor, however, urged the court to adjourn the case to enable her study the case file and present her witnesses.

Counsel to the defendants, Adeyemi Egbebi, made an application that bail be granted to the defendants on most liberal terms.

He said that the defendants would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N250,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

He adjourned the case until September 27 for hearing.
