A two-storey building collapsed on Saturday morning around the Ago Palace area of Okota, Lagos State.

The incident occurred at Chris Igadi Street, off Ago Palace Way, opposite Kilimanjaro and AP filling station, Okota.

Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said emergency responders arrived at the location around 3:00 a.m. on Saturday.

He said that the residents of the building had already evacuated the building when they noticed the signs two hours before the collapse.

“On arrival, information gathered from the residents revealed that the building gave signs several hours before the building collapsed,” he said.

“Fortunately, nobody was trapped as all the occupants evacuated the area when the signs began two hours before the collapse.

“A headcount of occupants was carried out to ensure no occupant is missing and the remains of the building were cordoned off.”

He said that the operation was concluded at about 5:23 a.m., adding that the site would be handed over to the Lagos State Building Control Agency and the state ministry of physical planning for further investigation.

Barely, five days after a three-storey building collapsed in Ebute Metta area of Lagos, resulting in the death of 10 people.
