Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), on Monday, rescued two victims of a collision involving a mini truck and two cars.

In a press release, the agency said a driver and his assistant were trapped under a mini truck loaded with sachet water before they were rescued.

Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, confirmed that the accident involving the mini truck and two Mazda vehicles occurred near Adeniji inward Sura, descending from the Third Mainland Bridge.

Mr Giwa said an investigation revealed “that the driver of the mini truck lost control due to brake failure, colliding with the two Mazda cars.”

He added, “The injured driver and his assistant were immediately taken to the hospital by the truck’s owner,” after which “LASTMA personnel promptly cleared all accident vehicles to ensure a free flow of traffic towards Lagos Island.”

Mr Giwa lamented drivers’ continued flouting of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, despite the state government’s ongoing campaign to educate motorists about speed limits and the importance of vehicle maintenance, particularly the braking system.

He “urged all drivers, including truck operators and private car owners, to avoid speeding and to check their vehicles before driving within and outside the state” and expressed sympathies to the injured victims.
