UBEC earmarks N32 million to support 31 schools in Katsina

The funds are to support the schools with infrastructure, learning materials and other needs.

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) says it has earmarked N32 million to support 31 schools in Katsina with infrastructure, learning materials and other needs.

UBEC is doing this through its programme, the School-Based Management Committee – School Improvement Programme (SBMC-SIP).

Chief Social Mobilisation Officer for UBEC, Patricia Oche, disclosed this on Tuesday, in Katsina, at a cluster based training for SBMC-SIP implementation sub-committee.

The training was also for local government education authority desk officers on the implementation of the 2019 SBMC-SIP project in the state.

Ms Oche said the funds will be shared to 31 selected schools, which are mostly in remote rural areas through three subcomponents/projects, namely, macro, micro, and special case school improvement projects.

“Under the Micro component, 20 schools were selected and each will get N350,000 each, under the Macro, 10 schools have qualified and will receive N2 million each.

“And also, under the special case component, we have selected only one school that would benefit with N5 million,” she said.

Lawal Buhari-Daura, Executive Chairman, Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), said the SBMC-SIP was an innovative strategy to redirect basic education delivery through increased meaningful engagement and governance.

Abdulmalik Bello, SUBEB‘s Director, Social Mobilisation, said one of the objectives of the programme was to increase school enrollment, retention and completion rate.
