On Wednesday, a multinational transportation company, Uber Technologies, restated its commitment to honour the terms of the Data Sharing Agreement it signed with the Lagos State Government in January 2024.

The company said the signed agreement included a commitment to share aggregated trip data daily via a secure folder solution.

Its country manager, Tope Akinwunmi, said this in a statement in Lagos on Wednesday.

Mr Akinwunmi said, “Nigeria is an important market to us and over the past 10 years, we have played our part to provide a platform for thousands of drivers to earn a flexible income.’’

The Lagos government had earlier said it would impose sanctions on Uber for Failure to comply with data-sharing agreements.

Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the transportation commissioner, said the government was ready to take action against the e-hailing company for failing to adhere to a crucial data-sharing agreement.

Mr Osiyemi, who emphasised the importance of regulatory compliance for the safety and security of Lagos residents, underscored the need for Uber to address the issue within the established regulatory framework.

He said that failure to comply would result in firm sanctions in accordance with state laws and regulations.

Meanwhile, the Lagos transport ministry officials have started impounding Uber drivers’ vehicles, causing the drivers to boycott rides in Lagos.
