The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, has called for collective action to fortify the security architecture of the university.

Making the appeal in Ilorin at a meeting with all the security staff members of the institution, Mr Egbewole acknowledged the crucial role played by security agencies.

He noted their roles in ensuring the safety of members of the university community and expressed gratitude for their dedication.

He encouraged them to renew their commitment to the services of the institution, particularly in safeguarding lives and property.

Mr Egbewole reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing the needs of the Security Unit within the limit of its resources.

He emphasised the significance of the security staff’s physical well-being, and the importance of good health in carrying out their duties effectively.

Mr Egbewole therefore directed the Director of Health Services, Unilorin, Dr Rasheed Odunola, to develop a comprehensive schedule for regular check-ups and medical attention for the university’s security personnel.

Responding, Mr Odunola assured the security staff that a well structured timetable would be created to accommodate their medical needs without disrupting their daily responsibilities.

This approach, he explained, would be aimed at ensuring that the security personnel receive appropriate health care to enhance their overall well-being.

On his part, the institution’s Registrar, Mansur Alfanla, appealed to the security staff to fulfill their contractual obligations by diligently carrying out their responsibilities.

Mr Alfanla stressed the importance of honouring their commitment to the university and ensuring that the campus remained safe and secured for all.

Also speaking, the Chief Security Officer the university, Wasiu Oyewo, commended the vice chancellor and his entire management team for organising the meeting.

Mr Oyewo pledged the unwavering commitment of the security staff to securing the lives and property of members of the university community.

He also expressed the readiness of the Security Unit to collaborate with the management and implement necessary measures to fortify the security infrastructure of the institution.
