The University of Maiduguri’s alumni forum, Abuja chapter, has called for unity to impact the school and its students.

The forum made the call on Saturday in Abuja at the 9th edition of its Quarterly walkout and networking, tagged ‘Reawakening Walk 2.0’.

The president of the forum, Shettima Kukawa, advised all Unimaid graduates residing in Abuja to identify with the alumni, unite, and make an impact on the school and its students.

Mr Kukawa said the reawakening walk was a call for association members to wake up and participate.

“There is a need for all of us to come together, unite and make an impact in both the school and the students. We are trying to bring our people together. It is only when you achieve that you are able to make the necessary impact on people, the university, and students.

“Some of them, who graduated from Unimaid and reside in this town, have never met themselves. So this is what we do as part of our programmes to bring our members together, ” he said.

He urged Abuja residents to socialise and build an established network to help establish the alumni association and the university itself.

“The university recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, and we have challenges and issues with the alumni association. One is largely the lack of participation by members. That is what we are trying to do; create awareness about why this is important and then come together as an alumni association to benefit from ourselves and the university at large,” he said.

The secretary of the forum, Maimuma Abdullahi, said, “This forum is more than just an exercise. It is a platform to bring everyone together. You know, we are in Abuja, everybody is doing their thing. We do not get to meet often.

A former president of the forum, Hamisu Medugu, said that unity and networking are crucial to society, adding that the walk will strengthen friendships and lay the groundwork for a better future.
