Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Spikers on Friday in Abuja defeated Bayonet Spikers 3-0 in the opening match of the 2022 National Division One Volleyball League.

The match played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium saw the CNS Spikers gave their opponents a tough time.

CNS Spikers won the first set 25-20, the second 25-11 and the third 25-18 to record a first win in the female competition of the league.

Speaking after the match, Kafilat Oladapo, the coach of CNS Spikers, said she was very delighted that her players won their first match.

“I feel very excited, although this is the first match. I believe the next match will be tougher than this. But CNS Spikers are good to go

“My team was impressive against Bayonet, and they have not given their best yet. But I know this is the beginning of the journey and their best is yet to come in this Division One League.”

“Our next opponents are Life Camp VC of Abuja and they are a good side. But I believe my team is better and we will give them a tough time on Saturday,” she added.

The men’s teams in the league include: Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), UCEM Spikers, Wikki Spikers of Bauchi and the Spartan Spikers of Yola.

The rest are ABM of Katsina, Equity Spikers of Birnin-Kebbi, Caliphate Spikers of Sokoto and Oluyole Spikers from Oyo state.

Only four women’s teams have met the requirements to play in the league.

The National Division One League featuring both the male and female competitions is being held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja and will end on May 22.
