WAEC cautions invigilators over examination misconduct

WAEC enjoined secondary principals to ensure on invigilators with proven integrity are recommended for assignments.

The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has warned exam invigilators to shun all forms of examination misconduct during the examination.

Sofela Bisi, WAEC’s zonal controller, gave the warning while speaking with the staff of the commission on Friday in Minna, Niger State, according to Punch reports.

According to Mr Sofela, no official of the commission should indulge in examination misconduct.

He urged secondary schools principals in the state to ensure that they monitor the activities of invigilators in their schools so they can be well informed about any misconduct during the examination.

He said that secondary schools principals should ensure that invigilators with integrity and not those who value money over hard work are recommended for their schools.

“Some supervisors request money from students to allow them cheat or sell examination questions. Our exams are to measure standards and not to negotiate and sell our questions,” he said.

“Be on (the) ground to monitor to see what some of them do as some collect money from students

“I appeal to you to only give us people who value hard work over money.”

He emphasised that this new approach will discourage the bad habits and procedures in the past.

The examination is set to commence on Monday, May 16 to Thursday, June 23, 2022.
