We saved 163 lives, N591 million properties; helped women in labour: Kano Fire Service

Mr Ahmed-Muhammed said 27 persons died, while property worth N197.6 million were destroyed by fire during the period.

Between January and March, 2023, the Kano State Fire Service said it saved 163 lives including assisting pregnant women get quickly to hospitals for safe delivery.

The director of the service, Hassan Ahmed-Muhammed, stated on Sunday in Kano that property worth N591.5 million from January to March.

Mr Ahmed-Muhammed said 27 persons died, while property worth N197.6 million were destroyed by fire during the period.

“The service responded to 125 rescue calls and 37 false alarms from residents of the state within the period.

“Some of the service rescues include: flooding, rescue from collapsed buildings, road accidents, animal rescue, assistance of women in labour to hospitals, among others,” he said.

The director attributed the causes of fire incidents to carelessness, use of sub-standard electrical appliances and illegal electricity connections, among others.

He advised the general public to handle fire incidents carefully and abide by traffic laws to avoid road accidents.

Mr Ahmed-Muhammed urged road users to give way whenever there is an emergency for that to be able to get to the rescue team on time.
