A Federal Judge in Massachusetts United States has ruled that wearing T-shirts with the inscription ‘there are only two genders’ violates LGBTQ rights.

Court documents seen by Peoples Gazette on Saturday evening revealed that Alliance Defending Freedom and the Massachusetts Family Institute had filed a case on behalf of Liam Morrison. Logan Spena, the group’s counsel argued that Morrison’s right to free expression was being infringed upon at his school.

Morrison’s legal team is requesting that the court halt the boy’s school from imposing a ban on two shirts he wore to lessons earlier this year. “There are only two genders”, and “there are censored genders”, were written on the clothes in question.

However, the judge dismissed the attorneys’ request for a temporary injunction, or restraining order, at a hearing in Boston, which would have halted the school’s power to prevent the 12-year-old student from expressing his gender opinions.

The judge ruled that Morrison’s decision to wear the T-shirt infringes on the rights of LGBT individuals.

In March, Morrison, a student at Nichols Middle School, decided to wear a shirt with the phrase “there are only two genders” inscribed on it for the first time. Morrison was informed that other students had complained about the clothing and was taken out of his first lesson of the day. The acting principal of the school ordered that Morrison should only return to class after taking off the shirt. Morrison was sent home for the day after refusing, according to a complaint made last month.
