Welder to undergo six months religious studies for stealing iron worth N15,000

During investigation, the convict told the police that he was hungry and looking for money to buy food.

A Grade I Area Court in Karu Abuja, on Thursday ordered a welder, Abilah Damina, to undergo six months imprisonment with intensive religious studies for stealing a  gate rail iron worth N15,000.

The Judge, Inuwa Maiwada, sentenced Mr Damina, who lives in Gidan Mangoro, Abuja after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy and theft, and offered him an option to pay a fine of N20,000.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Ade Adeyanju, told the court that the convict stole the material with the help of security men and others within the area.

Mr Adeyanju said during investigation, the convict told the police that he was hungry and looking for money to buy food.

He said the matter was reported at the Jikwoyi Police Station by James Victor of opposite Army Estate, Kurudu, FCT, Abuja.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 348, 327, 287 of the Penal Code.
