The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is currently training its 5,000 new intakes, says Commandant General Ibrahim Audi.

The CG said this on Thursday during the Corps’ 2022 second quarter conference in Abuja. He also debunked reports of a fresh recruitment.

The new recruits are for the 2019 intake, expected to pass out by July 7.

Mr Audi advised applicants not to fall prey to dupes circulating false NSCDC recruitment portals on social media platforms.

He warned that anyone involved in such scam was liable to face the law once apprehended.

The CG also announced the establishment of a new squad tagged “Transport Marshals”, saddled with the responsibility of providing physical security to Nigeria’s transportation infrastructure.

Mr Audi said that the Corps, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Transportation, agreed to take the proactive step to secure the country’s marine, aviation, railway and road transportation sectors’ infrastructure, including bus terminals among others.

He charged all state Commandants to select no fewer than 20 young vibrant, smart, committed and healthy personnel to be trained for the new squad.

“The Corps will select the first set of personnel who will be made to undergo three months intensive training at the first instance.

“This is to adequately prepare them for the task ahead as we take proactive steps towards addressing the spate of insecurity in the country,” he said.

The CG further said that from April to June, NSCDC Special Intelligence Squad had arrested over 200 suspected criminals in different parts of the country.

“They have in turn handed over suspected vandals and oil thieves to the various state Commands for further investigation and appropriate prosecution,” he said.

He tasked officers on the need to work hard in gathering intelligence reports and prompt supply of information for further action.

According to him, over 500 junior personnel are currently undergoing arms training.

He said that it was important for every security personnel to identify rifles and be able to use them.

The NSCDC boss said that the corps continued to map out new strategies to secure Nigerians and adequately protect critical national assets and infrastructure.
