Some widows of police officers, on Wednesday, begged for more support from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The widows spoke with journalists at the presentation of cheques to them by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Adegoke Fayoade.

Cheques for N166 million were presented by the police boss to 86 families of police officers who died while on duty.

Saraya Garuba, wife of one late Inspector Garuba, said that things were becoming more difficult for the family since the officer died.

Mrs Garuba, however, praised the police for the cheque given to her, saying that the money would go a long way in meeting some needs such as school fees payment, house rent payment and food stuff purchase.

Mary Pius, also an officer’s widow, equally thanked the police authorities for the cheque.

Mrs Pius, who has six children, appealed for more assistance.

She said that some of her children needed jobs to support the family.

“We are happy for the money.

“I was surprised when I got a message to come and collect the cheque.

“My appeal to the I-G is to secure police work for any of my children, as that will go a long way in assisting the family,” she said.

Rosemary Sunday also pleaded for employment opportunities for her children to reduce hardship on the family.

Earlier, Mr Fayoade advised the widows to use the money judiciously.
