Woman, 34, in court for cheating firm of N150,000

The prosecutor noted that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the penal code.

A 34-year old woman, Esther Emeh, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Lugbe Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly cheating a company of N150,000.

Ms Emeh, who resides at Karmajiji, Abuja, is being charged with breach of trust and cheating.

The Prosecutor, Emeka Ezeganya told the court that the matter was reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Wuse, zone 3 by Arena Johnson of Mombolo street, Wuse.

Mr Ezeganya said that the complainant employed the defendant as a secretary in his company (name not mentioned), and she collected the sum of N150, 000 to offset house rent arrears.

He said that the defendant also registered the company’s glo line in her name and absconded, but was later arrested.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the penal code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Malam Aliyu Kagarko, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in like sum.

The judge adjourned the case until May 3 for further hearing.
