Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan is no longer the world champion after the 26-year-old lost her world title to Danielle Williams of Jamaica in the women’s 100m hurdles on Thursday evening, Peoples Gazette can report.

Danielle ran a Season Best of 12.43s to become the new 100m hurdles World Champion, while Amusan clocked 12.62s to finish sixth in the final. Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn clinched the silver medal position in 12.44s.

United States’ Kemi Harrison clocked 12.46s to win the bronze medal; Devynne Charlton of Bahama finished fourth in 12.52s; Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent clocked 12.61s to settle for fifth place.

Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji finished seventh in 12.70s, and Nia Al of the United States came last with a time of 12.78s in the dramatic race.

Amusan’s preparation for the championships was not smooth after the former world champion was provisionally banned by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for breaching anti-doping rules.

AIU alleged the two-time Diamond League champion missed three consecutive whereabouts tests in 12 months. However, she was cleared to compete in Budapest only two days before the start of the tournament after a disciplinary panel overturned the ban.
