The police command in Adamawa has assured residents of adequate measures for free crime before, during and after Christmas and New Year.

SP Suleiman Nguroje, the command’s spokesman, gave the assurance in a statement on Thursday in Yola.

He said the police had designed proactive strategies to create an enabling environment for peaceful celebrations.

“In a bid to sustain the already existing peace and ensure hitch-free celebrations during the yuletide season everywhere within the state. The commissioner of police, Afolabi Babatola, today (Thursday) met with the strategic actors in crime prevention, drew action plans and security rings around religious centres, residential areas, event centres and VIPs, amongst others,” he said.

According to him, the police commissioner urged the DCP in charge of operations to ensure adequate deployment of manpower and operational assets to the identified areas.

“The CP emphasises more on intelligence-led policing and (has) directed the deployment of technological equipment to record pictorial evidence of incidents. And adopt visibility and community policing strategies in line with the international best practices.

“The command will equally take adequate measures to deal with criminal elements who are bent on fomenting troubles or disrupt the peace of the public,” he said.

Mr Babatola, however, urged parents to warn their children to shun all crimes as the command will not take it lightly with anyone found breaking the law of the land.

He also called on all citizens to remain vigilant and give timely information of suspicious activities around their neighbourhood to the nearest police station or through emergency lines: 08089671313, 09077597910, 07065950456.
