Armed bandits have kidnapped an indeterminate number of students from the Federal University of Gusau in the early hours of Friday.

The bandits struck around 3:00 a.m.

According to comments on social media by students from the campus, the gunmen invaded the Sabon-Gida community of the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara.

At least three student dormitories were raided and all of the students in the hostels were taken away by the armed men.

In April of this year, it was also reported that at least two female students of the university were kidnapped by gunmen believed to be bandits.

Zamfara has historically been a hotspot for bandits who engage in kidnap-for-ransom schemes. Many people have blamed the problem on the existence of illicit miners in the country.

To address this issue, former President Muhammadu Buhari imposed a no-fly zone over particular volatile areas in the state.
