The Zamfara government has again closed down 11 cattle markets across the state until further notice.

Information commissioner Munnir Haidara disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

He said security reports showed bandits were using those markets to sell their rustled cows.

According to the commissioner, the affected markets include the Tsafe and Bilbis markets in the Tsafe Local Government Area, the Jangebe market in Talata-Mafara LGA and the Wuya market in the Anka area.

Other markets are the Magazine Diddi market in Maradun LGA, Galadi market in Shinkafi LGA, Mada market in Gusau LGA, Sabon Birnin Danali in Birnin Magaji LGA, Kokiya, Chigama and Nasarawar Godel markets all in Birnin Magaji LGA.

Mr Haidara said the Zamfara government shut down the markets due to security reports that the bandits were conspiring with unscrupulous elements to sell rustled cows there.

He said the Zamfara government had directed the security agents to ensure total compliance and arrest anyone who violated the order.

“The security personnel have since been directed to arrest any person found in these affected markets,” he added.

The commissioner called on the public to abide by the order and cooperate with the state government to rid Sokoto of bandits.
