MANILA – Members of people’s organizations marched to the Office of the Ombudsman in Quezon City, November 7, 2025 to press for accountability for the devastating effects of Typhoon Tino in relation to corruption and failed flood control projects.
“While our houses are submerged in flood water, they are literally swimming in money,” Cathleen De Guzman of Kalikasan People’s Network for the Environment said in Filipino during the protest.
According to reports, 114 have died due to the onslaught of the typhoon.
Cebu, one of the most severely affected by typhoon Tino had 394 flood control projects in Cebu amounting to P25.38 billion, according to Sumbong sa Pangulo website. On top of this, P8.43 billion was allotted from unprogrammed funds from 2023 until 2024 for 102 flood control projects.
