JK Rowling's UK publisher Bloomsbury has just confirmed to Greenpeace that 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' will be printed on a part ancient forest friendly paper. This will be the first best selling book to be printed on such a paper in the UK.
Bloomsbury's publicity manager, Katie Bond, has confirmed to Greenpeace that the company, has ordered a 30% Forest Stewardship Council certified paper for the printing of the new Harry Potter book. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is the only certification scheme that can ensure that the paper used comes from forests that have been managed in an environmentally and socially responsible way.
In the near future, Greenpeace hope Bloomsbury and other UK publishers will move towards entirely (100%) ancient forest friendly papers. Ancient forest friendly papers are those that maximise recycled content with any virgin fibre coming from FSC certified sources.
Bloomsbury's confirmation followed a recent visit made by Hedwig the owl to the company's HQ. Hedwig along with friends handed out leaflets outside Bloomsbury's HQ on Soho Square calling on the publisher to print the next Harry Potter on a 100% ancient forest friendly paper.
