Volunteer campaigners, together with Greenpeace UK, obstructed the entrance to a fracking site at Preston New Road in Lancashire. They intended to stop preparation works for the first UK frack for gas, after the government overruled the local council decision to reject planning permission.
The UK’s biggest energy company, Centrica, has donated tens of thousands of dollars to a Texas-based climate denial think tank strongly linked to Donald Trump’s new energy secretary Rick Perry, Energydesk has revealed.
Centrica, which owns British Gas and is a major investor in UK fracking, has made a number of donations to the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) over the last five years and says it has no plans to stop.
Sajid Javid has overruled Lancashire Council’s decision to reject fracking at two sites in Lancashire. He has given the go ahead for drilling exploration to start at the Preston New Road site but it has been reported drilling will not be allowed at the other site for now. However, the Secretary of State's ruling is giving Cuadrilla more time to prove their case at the Roseacre site, and says that he is minded to allow planning permission for fracking there in the future.
